Dr. Diana Singh, to present emotional labour study at Ontario Library Association (OLA) conference
The panel presentation entitled Emotions Matter: Emotional Labour Training And Resilience Skill Building in Public Library Work will take place on February 2nd from 10:30am-11:30am at the OLA conference held at Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
Dr. Singh, Executive Director of McMaster’s Centre for Advanced Research on Mental Health and Society (ARMS) will be joined by public library CEOs Paul Takala (Hamilton) and Lita Barrie (Burlington) along with Associate Professor, Norene Erikson, from MacEwan University. The panel will be chaired by Dr. Marisa Young, Associate Professor of Sociology and Director of ARMS at McMaster University.
The panel presentation, Emotions Matter: Emotional Labour Training And Resilience Skill Building in Public Library Work, will focus on exploring the concept of emotional labour and how it applies within the context of public library work. Dr. Singh will provide an overview of the Emotions Matter study and how findings from this research were used to develop evidence-based skill building resources for library workers to mitigate the negative impacts of their emotional labour. Erikson will also contribute her expertise in the area of emotional labour in public library work. Takala and Barrie will speak to some of the challenges faced by library workers in their organizations and the tangible benefits of their participation in the Emotions Matter study.
