The Community-Engaged Research (CER) Graduate Student Internship Program, facilitated through the Faculty of Social Sciences’ Community Research Platform (CRP), provides opportunities for MA and PhD students to work with CRP partner organizations on research projects that support organizational needs and priorities and have tangible benefits for communities.

Project: Research support for two initiatives including Women of Distinction and Gender Based Community Health Clinic
Job Description: YWCA Hamilton’s Centre for Feminist Research and Evaluation (CFRE) is seeking a PhD student intern to support research activities related to the Women of Distinction leadership project and the development of gender-based community health services.
Key tasks include (but are not limited to):
- Supporting the development of a tri-Council grant proposal for the Women of Distinction leadership project (including literature review, project description, expected outcomes and budget justification)
- Work with YWCA staff to develop a program model and evaluation framework for the Gender Based Community Health Clinic
- Liaising with various faculties at McMaster University to explore opportunities for student placements at, and faculty collaborations with, the YWCA Gender Based Health Clinic and the Centre for Feminist Research and Evaluation
- Supporting additional tasks necessary for the development of the Centre for Feminist Research and Evaluation, including but not limited to the launch of a micro website for the Centre
Required skills and experience:
- Strong qualitative research skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience with grant development
- Demonstrated interest in community based, action-oriented research
- Excellent time management, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Experience working in Feminist organizations or working from a feminist perspective
- Knowledge of critical race, Black feminist, anti-colonial theories, and methodologies
