Primary Care Access & Attachment

A collaborative study on improving primary care attachment for individuals navigating housing, mental health, and substance use challenges

CMHA-Hamilton has partnered with Dr. James Gillett, doctoral candidate Samantha Perrotta, and undergraduate student Shalia Hernandez Duartes to examine the Primary Care Access and Attachment Team (PCAAT).

PCAAT is an interagency initiative in Hamilton that seeks to improve access and attachment to primary care for individuals experiencing precarity, including housing instability, mental health challenges, and substance use related barriers.

This study examines how the PCAAT model functions in practice and how it is experienced by those involved in designing and delivering care, as well as by individuals receiving services. Findings will contribute to ongoing reflection within the initiative and deepen understanding of community-based approaches to primary care attachment. This study receives support from MITACS.
